Brencis sits at the top of the war: the Knyaz of Vale Sangora and the man every vassal arc builds toward. Ambrus, Bakir, and Xanthe run the field underneath him, and all three of their arcs must be resolved before the endgame. His castle is the finale — the night-traversal approach to it triggers an ending warning before the entry sequence, the point of no return for a standard run.

How the Brencis confrontation resolves the endings

The Brencis confrontation is where the main endings resolve, in the final-quest dialogue A Deal with the Devil.

  • Turncoat — the route where Coen accepts Brencis’s bargain (trading an ally for his family).
  • Patricide — the route where he stands with Lacra.
  • Knyazmaker — the route where he stands with Crake and the Manumits.
  • Folk Hero — defeating him alone.

The fight itself is the last piece: which ending you land on is set by the dialogue (and, for the bad ending, by the 30-day window), not by the combat outcome.

Where he leads

Brencis is the destination of the run, not a branch: the vassal resolutions, your side commitments in the Lacra and Crake routes, and your day count all carry into the finale. For how to arrive prepared, see final fight prep and the all endings reference. For the full cast, see the key characters compendium.

Frequently asked questions

Who is the final boss in The Blood of Dawnwalker?

Brencis — the top of the war, the man every vassal arc builds toward. His castle is the finale, and the night-traversal approach to it triggers an ending warning before the entry sequence — the point of no return for a standard run.

Is winning the fight what decides my ending?

No. Which ending you land on is set by the final-quest dialogue (and, for the bad ending, by the 30-day window), not by the combat outcome.

What is Brencis to Coen?

Brencis is Coen's father, and his tied relationship to Coen is one of the two things that defines Coen's story — the other being his family. The finale resolves that relationship.
